This trio of Celtic harpers who have toured extensively throughout the US to sold out audiences and rave reviews. Fire Ant Frolic – Nov 18-20 – Austin TX

Fire Ant Frolic is Austin’s annual contra dance weekend. Every year they bring in a nationally known band and caller for an entire weekend of dancing. Dancers from all over the area come to dance & enjoy fellowship & community.

This year they will feature the nationally acclaimed fiddle player Jamie Laval, accompanied by the very talented Owen Morrison on guitar and expert calling provided by Susan Petrick. Enjoy various workshops including English Country dance, Waltz, Scottish Ceilidh dances and a Rushfest during the afterparty with Emily Rush. Hope you can join them!

Jamie Laval is a nationally acclaimed fiddle player currently living near Asheville NC. An International Champion Celtic Fiddler who performs and teaches the traditional music of Scotland, Ireland, Brittany, and Quebec. His music has been heard in many venues around the world as well as TV and movie soundtracks, he has even done a TED Talk.

BalFolk 2016! July 29 – 31

BalFolk 2016! is a new weekend event that will focus on the dance and music of the European BalFolk scene. This year we are starting off with music and dance from central France. The event is sponsored by TTU’s Vernacular Music Center and the Roots Music Institute.

It takes place between Friday evening July 29th and midday on Sunday the 31st. Classes will run all day Saturday with a big BalFolk dance that evening, with classes resuming for a half day on Sunday. Since Lubbock is only 5 hours from Albuquerque the event is easily accessible. Lodging is available in numerous area hotels.

Songs & Tunes of the American West Concert with Steve Cormier and Bayou Seco

On Saturday, Feb. 27 at the 821 Performance Space, 821 Mountain Road, at 3:00 Bayou Seco and Steve Cormier will present their first joint concert in thirty years. Bayou Seco is internationally known for their Cajun and Southwestern music. They regularly tour the U.S., British Isles, and Europe. Steve Cormier is an internationally known cowboy singer who regularly tours the U.S. and Canada. He is the cowboy singer for the New Mexico Humanities Council’s Chautauqua Program. $15.

Our neighbors to the west will celebrate Jane Austen on Feb 27, 2016 all day, with guest speakers, tea, and a dance ball.  The dance will be called by Peg Hesley with music performed by The Syncopaths (previous stars of the FolkMADness stage)!

Winter Circle Dance with Tarleton Brooks

Tarleton is known across the country as a sacred circle dance leader. We are bringing her from North Carolina for this special event. We will gather at 4:00 and dance from 4:30 to 6:30, ending in a candlelight dance.

When you arrive you can drop your potluck item off in the dining hall marked as potluck. Then drive down to the parking and join us for dancing!
