Peter Johnson

Peter Johnson’s auto-Bio:

I started dancing in 1998 in Edinburgh, Scotland. The student-run ceilidhs there were so much fun I looked for something similar back home in Vermont, and found Contra! This dance and community have brought two decades of great joy.

While I’d thought about calling for some time, it took 12 years to be willing to forego dancing to hop onstage. I was lucky enough to band together with friends to create the Mad Robin Callers Collective, which allowed us to call a few, then dance a few, and have the best of both worlds! MRCC also provided a welcoming, supportive environment for learning, experimentation, and later, for mentoring newer callers. Six years later, love brought me to Denver, where I continue to dance, call, and seek balances — between innovation and tradition, newcomer and experienced, cerebral and elegantly simple, ridiculous and sublime.
