March 12, 2020

Dear FolkMADS Community,

We regret to inform you that all FolkMADS events have been cancelled until the end of April.

We wholeheartedly believe in the immense value of gathering together regularly for music, dance, and joy, but keeping the members of our community safe is of the highest importance.

To keep updated on the latest changes/announcements, please join our mailing list (under the “Join Us” tab) at folkmads.org.

At this time, a decision to cancel FolkMADness, held May 22-25, 2020 is still pending.

Stay healthy, friends. We eagerly await the next time we can make music and dance together again.

Letter to the Community (March 11, 2020)

Dear NM FolkMADS Community,

The Country Dance and Song Society, of which we are an affiliate, has issued a statement concerning COVID-19 (Coronavirus).  Please go here to read the full statement.

We want to reassure you that our board and committee members are keeping a very close eye on the COVID-19 situation and will do our best to keep you updated as things progress. There are currently three confirmed cases of Coronavirus in New Mexico.  At this point (3/11/20) our weekly dance events will continue as expected, however Sage Assembly, our English Country Dance Ball, has been cancelled.  Due to the developing COVID-19 situation, St. John’s College will be moving to online courses following their spring break, so campus will be closed when our Ball was scheduled. If you were already registered for Sage Assembly, please contact the Registrar (Angela Welford) for reimbursement.  If you would like to donate all or a portion of your registration fee to help FolkMADS cover the already incurred costs, please let the Registrar know.

In case of additional changes/cancellations, please visit our website for updates.  We will also send an email to our list and post to social media, if changes occur. (You can sign up for our email list here.)

Dancing requires close proximity and, inevitably, sharing of germs. We want to remind you that we should always, even in non-Coronavirus times, be doing the following:

  • Wash hands frequently.
  • Stay home if you are feeling ill, particularly with flu-like symptoms.

During the next several months, if you travel to places with confirmed cases of Coronavirus, or have interacted with individuals who may be infected, please wait for two weeks before attending a dance event.  Even if you are not concerned about the virus for yourself, please remember that others in the community may have compromised immune systems and/or be in the most highly affected demographic for COVID-19.

I have stopped at several stores to purchase hand sanitizer to restock for the Albuquerque dances, but have been unable to find any.  If you would like to donate hand sanitizer, please bring some to either regular dance location. In any case, both dance locations have easy access to sinks and soap. Please use them frequently!

We wholeheartedly believe in the immense value of gathering together regularly for music, dance, and joy, but keeping the members of our community safe is of the highest importance. Please be patient with your committee members as we work together to make decisions in the upcoming months.  If you have questions or concerns about this statement, please contact us at folkmads@gmail.com.

Best,

Clara and the FolkMADS Board
